Dr Lawrence's Health Notes

Hopefully you will find information in this blog that is timely and that you can use. Mark Twain once said, "Be careful of reading health books, you might die of a mis-print." So as with anything you read and see on the web, including my blog, do your own investigation and verify, verify, verify.

Enzymes

Enzyme Supplementation

Supplementation with enzymes can be of benefit to most individuals. Even healthy people may improve their absorption and utilization of nutrients through the use of digestive enzymes. People taking digestive enzymes may notice less fullness after meals, decreased gas, and more regular bowel habits. Those taking systemic enzymes might have an improved sense of well-being and increased energy.

What are Enzymes?

Enzymes are protein molecules that accelerate biochemical reactions in the body and are highly specific regarding what they do and under what conditions they do it.
All metabolic functions are controlled by enzymes and are vital for life. Without them we would not exist. Those enzymes that provide for inter or intra cellular activity are termed metabolic enzymes. For example, the conversion and remethylation of homocysteine is under the control of enzymes.

All food is composed of protein, fat, carbohydrate, and fiber. Digestive enzymes break down each of these into progressively smaller components until they reach their basic building block form. Carbohydrases such as amylase, lactase and invertase break down carbohydrates and starches. Proteases such as neutral-bacterial protease and peptidase break down protein. Lipases break down fats and oils.

Sources of Enzymes
Plant and bacterial enzymes have a broader pH range and can work throughout the digestive tract. The pH environment of the digestive tract is highly variable and can range from very acidic in the stomach to quite alkaline in the small intestine. Most enzyme supplements derived from animal sources are enteric coated because of their lack of stability in the acidity of the gastric region. Fortunately enzymes derived from microbial or plant sources are stable throughout a much broader range; and are ideally suited for survival and activity throughout the gastrointestinal tract.

Tissue Support from Original Medicine is a professionally formulated systemic enzyme formula to support healthy micro-circulation in connective tissue.

Tissue Support is the ultimate enzyme formula that provides one of the highest activity levels and broadest ranges of systemic proteolytic enzymes available in an enteric coated capsule. Tissue Support

Helps support normal, healthy muscle tissue recovery from everyday activity by assisting in normal fibrin turnover to maintain muscle integrity and support repair of everyday muscle wear and tear.

Contains a combination of systemic, protein-digesting enzymes to support optimal tissue fluid viscosity and maintain normal capillary-tissue exchange to promote normal tissue fluid circulation.

Uses a natural algae-based enteric coating to ensure the sensitive enzymes are released in the small intestine intact for maximum absorption and effectiveness.

Assists in normal fibrin turnover and support of normal microcirculation.

Colectomy Operations aka Colon Removal Surgery

Your colon is the large intestine where waste material from the body (feces) is prepared for elimination. If you have your colon removed, you have to wear a colostomy bag to collect the waste. If only a part of the colon is removed you may still face many challenges.
